Never in my life i thought of going to USA, even if i go i wanted to go with my family (Wife & Kid), that day i was informed that i was suppose to go to USA on a business trip for 1 month. The first step was to get a B1 VISA, an appointment was scheduled with the US embassy for VISA Interview. I had to go to Chennai for that, On the day of Interview I with few of my colleagues took a flight to Chennai, that was the first time i was boarding a flight. The experience was thrilling , even though short i enjoyed the flight. We took a room in one hotel and got freshened up and were waiting for the time to pass. The interview was scheduled at 12.45 in the afternoon.
Every body was cool except me, i was rehearsing what they will ask and how would i respond to it. I had a hard time remembering things, I was not able to recollect the name of the apartment where i was going to stay ( because i assumed that they would ask me this). Hundreds of questions were running through my mind, i was becoming more and more nervous as time passed. The time rolled by and finally we took an auto to the US Embassy. As expected there was big queue outside to get in. We were not allowed to carry any bag/phone etc inside the embassy, so we had to dump it in a small outlet which is outside the embassy. That guy asked for the appointment letter before he could consider to keep our belongings. We eneded up waiting in the queue for around 1.30 hours beating the Chennai heat. People who had appointement before were asked to bypass us and go. FInally we entered the embassy then started the scrutiny of the documents we were carrying, we were allowed inside after a security check. The first step was to submit the visa appointment letter along with finger prints ,first right hand four fingers, second left hand four fingers and then both the thumbs ( god knows why so many finger prints). Then the wait started, after few minutes of waiting we were asked to go inside another lounge where the interviews were happening and they were calling candidates based on their interview time. I could see people standing in queue for their turn, and looked at their hands after their turn was over, if they carried the passport then it meant they didnt make it. There was only lady who was left and right rejecting people visa. I prayed to god , please dont send to this lady. Finally they called 12.45 and i made sure that i did not go to that lady. I was waiting for my turn and saw few rejections there , i was completely nervous. When my turn came all the nervousness was gone ( I dont know where). I was confident at this point of time. The guy started with the first questions, why do you want to go to US? I cooly said on a business trip to collect business requirements and so on.....That was followed by few more questions, and finally he said Sir, you VISA is approved we will send your passport in 3-4 working days. Sign of relief was there on my face, i said thank you and left the counter.
